Tourists made it iconic, but Spaniards still pour it for warm evenings, terraces, and easy gatherings.

Good sangria starts with decent wine—not the finest bottle, but nothing harsh—and ripe fruit that can steep without turning mushy too soon. Overly sugary versions miss the point; balance keeps it drinkable through conversation. White and sparkling variations exist, yet classic red remains the postcard image. It is fruit-forward Mediterranean hospitality in liquid form.

On Sangria Day, combine red wine with citrus and seasonal fruit, chill, and top with a little fizz before serving in a clear pitcher. Share generously and keep the ice cold. Celebrating sangria is celebrating Spain’s most sociable summer pour.
