The story of the popsicle began as an accidental invention by an eleven-year-old boy named Frank Epperson in 1905. He left a cup of powdered soda water with a stirring stick out overnight, and when the temperature dropped, the concoction froze, giving birth to the popsicle. Epperson later patented his creation in 1923, initially calling it “Eppsicles” before changing the name to “Popsicle.” With the help of the Joe Lowe company, he started distributing these frozen delights across the nation. Fast forward to today, and popsicles come in various flavors, with cherry being the most popular. However, the underappreciated blueberry popsicle has a unique charm, offering a distinct flavor and a deeper blue color. These blueberry popsicles may not be as common as their cherry counterparts, but they hold their own in the world of frozen treats. National Blueberry Popsicle Day is all about celebrating the creation of popsicles and giving some well-deserved recognition to the blueberry flavor. Blueberries have a rich history, with people enjoying them for over 13,000 years. A single blueberry bush can produce up to 6,000 blueberries each year, and these little berries are packed with antioxidants and vitamin C.
