National Bubble Gum Day
Friday, February 6, 2026 · the first Friday of February
The story
Bubble gum Day was first celebrated in 2006 by author Ruth Spiro, who wanted a day that combined education, philanthropy, and bubble gum. The idea took off, and today, schools, businesses, and libraries participate by raising money for charity—often letting kids chew gum in school for a small donation.
Bubble gum itself has a fun history. In 1928, Walter Diemer created a gum that was less sticky and stretched better, calling it Blibber Blubber—later renamed Dubble Bubble. It ruled the market until World War II, when Bazooka became popular.
Later, Hubba Bubba and Bubble Yum introduced synthetic gum bases, making gum easier to chew and less likely to stick to faces.
Bubble gum is usually pink—a tradition started by Diemer’s original batch. Kids love fruity flavors like strawberry and blue raspberry, while unusual flavors remain a novelty. Today’s gum combines natural chicle and synthetic bases to create the perfect chewy texture.
