Longjing Tea Day
June 21 every year
The story
Longjing, or Dragon Well, is China's most celebrated green tea: flat, jade-green leaves from the Hangzhou hills, brewed into a clear liquor with chestnut-sweet aroma and a smooth, vegetal finish. The leaves are pan-fired to fix greenness and shape; infusion is gentle, often in glass so the leaves can dance upright. Quality grades reward early harvests and careful handling from bush to cup.
Tea culture around West Lake ties landscape, craft, and hospitality together in one sip. Longjing is drunk plain—no milk, no spice—so leaf quality and water temperature matter more than additives. It pairs with light snacks and quiet conversation more than heavy banquet courses. As a global ambassador of Chinese green tea, it stands for clarity, place, and restraint.
On Longjing Tea Day, brew a modest pinch in glassware just off the boil's fierce edge. Taste the chestnut note and the clean, lasting finish. Celebrate Longjing as China's hillside green tea icon—elegant, transparent, and deeply place-rooted.
