The story

Turrón is Spain’s Christmas-season almond nougat, most famously soft, oily Jijona and hard, white Alicante styles from the Levant. Almonds, honey, and egg white are cooked and worked into bars that snap or yield depending on tradition. Boxes of turrón appear in December shops like edible gift wrap, and families argue affectionately over soft versus crunchy favorites every year.

The craft is tied to Jijona and Alicante producers who guard textures and almond ratios with pride. Modern flavors exist, but classic honey-almond turrón remains the standard of Spanish festive sweets. A small piece after coffee is enough; a whole table of varieties is December hospitality. It is dessert, gift, and calendar marker in one sticky, fragrant almond bar.
