Bordeaux Wine Day
September 18 every year
The story
Bordeaux wine is the collective name for still wines from France's Gironde vineyards—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and companions shaped by gravel, clay, and Atlantic influence. From everyday Bordeaux AOC bottles to classified growths, the region taught the world to think in vintages, blends, and aging. A glass of red Bordeaux with cheese or a Sunday roast is a French table ritual as much as a collector's pursuit.
Harvest season in September concentrates attention on the vines, cellars, and markets that send Bordeaux across the globe. The wine is an ingredient in coq au vin and sauces as well as a drink; its tannins and black-fruit character define countless French meals. White Bordeaux and sweet Sauternes widen the story, but red remains the emblem for many tables.
On Bordeaux Wine Day, open a bottle that fits your meal, taste slowly, and notice how food softens tannin. Pair with Comté, duck, or mushrooms. Celebrating Bordeaux is celebrating French wine as place: river, gravel, grape, and time in bottle.
