National Peanut Butter Lover's Day

The story

In the late 19th century, a visionary thinking led to culinary revolutions where a determined physician embarked on a mission to provide his patients with a revolutionary, easily edible, and nutritious food. This is where the incredible journey of peanut butter began, in the year 1890, when Marcellus Gilmore Edson introduced the world to a spread that would forever change the culinary landscape. National Peanut Butter Lovers Day, a day that celebrates our collective affection for this creamy concoction, was established in 1990.

It commemorates the first commercially available peanut butter in the United States and was born from a collaboration between the National Peanut Board and the Adult Peanut Butter Lovers Fan Club. The concept of peanut butter dates back to ancient civilizations like the Incas and Aztecs, who ground roasted peanuts into a paste. The modern peanut butter we savor today owes its creation to several inventors.

Dr. John Harvey Kellogg patented a peanut butter-making process using raw peanuts in 1895. Dr.

Andrew Straub designed a peanut-making machine in 1903, and in 1922, chemist Joseph Rosefield devised a process that resulted in smooth peanut butter. His innovation involved using partially hydrogenated oil to prevent oil separation. In 1928, Rosefield licensed his creation to Swift & Company, the masterminds behind Peter Pan peanut butter.

Eventually, in 1932, Rosefield launched his own peanut butter brand, Skippy, taking the world of peanut butter to even greater heights. It all began in the groovy 1970s when H.P.

Hood introduced the first “Frogurt.” As the 1980s rolled in, frozen yogurt gained popularity as a healthier alternative to ice cream. And today, it's making a triumphant comeback, offering a delectable combination of sweetness and tartness that's hard to resist.

Now, yogurt itself has an impressive history dating back over 4,000 years, originating in the Middle East and India. However, it wasn't until the 1970s that someone had the brilliant idea of freezing yogurt, creating the sensation we know and love today. But is frozen yogurt really better than ice cream?

Absolutely! Frozen yogurt, also known as “Frogurt,” offers the same delightful flavors as ice cream but with fewer calories. It's a healthier treat packed with live cultures and natural calcium – a win for your taste buds and your well-being.
