International Beer Day

The story

Beer is among humanity’s oldest fermented drinks, brewed from grains for thousands of years across Mesopotamia, Egypt, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Early beers were nourishing, communal, and often safer than uncertain water. Monastic brewers, village alewives, and later industrial lager makers each left their mark, building a drink that ranges from light and crisp to dark, rich, and boldly hoppy.

Styles tell geography as clearly as maps do: Czech and German lagers, Belgian ales, British bitters and stouts, and the inventive craft beers that now flourish worldwide. Ingredients remain humble—water, malt, hops, and yeast—yet tiny changes in roast, bitterness, and fermentation create endless character. Beer belongs at festivals, ballparks, pubs, and quiet dinners alike.

International Beer Day, held on the first Friday of August, invites people to gather and taste. Visit a brewery, try a style you have never ordered, share a flight with friends, or pair a pint with food. Celebrated in moderation, the day honors brewing craft and the easy camaraderie that seems to rise with every glass of foam.
