The story

Coffee ice cream, a sweet blend of two classics, has a history that dates back to the mid-19th century. The first recorded recipe, hailing from 1919, featured crushed ice, cream, and coffee syrup. Over time, this frozen delight evolved into the modern coffee ice cream we savor today, created by dissolving fine coffee grounds into a hot ice cream base. This exquisite flavor can be enjoyed on its own or as the star of milkshakes, though caution is advised for the caffeine content, especially for kids. Some believed that coffee originated in Ethiopia and that it also made its way to the Middle East, and then to Europe in the 1600s and became a popular beverage, especially in Britain. Meanwhile, the origins of ice cream-like treats can be traced to the Roman era, evolving over time into what we now know as modern ice cream in the 18th and 19th centuries. The blend of coffee and ice cream gained prominence in 1869 when coffee ice cream was used in a parfait. It also made an appearance in a 1919 cookbook as ”Egg Coffee,“ featuring cream, crushed ice, and coffee syrup. Since then, coffee ice cream has become a staple on the menu of almost every ice cream shop.
