National Pizza Party Day

The story

Pizza has a rich history that stretches back thousands of years. The concept of pizza-like dishes can be traced to the ancient Greeks, who adorned bread with herbs, oil, and cheese. The Romans, too, had their own version of pizza, featuring honey, cheese, and bay leaves on a pastry.

The earliest semblance of modern pizza, the Neapolitan Flatbread, emerged in Naples, Italy, during the 18th century, featuring mozzarella cheese made from buffalo milk. Over time, new ingredients were introduced, and pizza gained global popularity. In 1905, pizza found its way to the United States, thanks to Italian immigrants who started pizzerias, notably Lombardi's in New York City.
