They meticulously chopped, seasoned, and molded the potato mixture into those iconic Tater Tots we know today. In 1953, Tater Tots were introduced to the world by Ore-Ida's research committee. “Tater,” a clever abbreviation for potato, paired with “tot,” conveying the notion of “little ones” or “tiny potatoes.” While Tater Tots faced initial skepticism due to their affordability, the Grigg brothers and Ore-Ida knew they had stumbled upon something extraordinary. They adjusted the price, making Tater Tots accessible to all, and soon enough, they became a sensation. Tater Tots quickly became an integral part of American cuisine, finding their way into school cafeterias, college campuses, and the menus of Mexican-style fast-food establishments.
