The story

Walnuts boast a rich history dating back to 7000 B.C. in ancient Persia, earning the title of the Royal Nut and a place reserved for royalty. Alexander the Great introduced them to Greece, where they became known as the Persian Nut. The Greeks imported Persian cultivars to enhance their breeds. Spread by the Roman Empire, walnuts reached the British Isles, leading to the distinction between ”English walnut“ and black walnut. In Southern California, Franciscan Fathers cultivated walnuts, earning them the name ”mission walnuts.“ Today, California walnuts dominate the global industry. National Walnut Day, established by the Walnut Marketing Board in 1949, celebrates this nutritious nut. U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower further solidified its significance by declaring it a public holiday in 1958.
